This is a genuinely lovely example that has remained unmolested and remarkably original over the years. With just 96,000 miles on the clock, it runs and drives beautifully and has clearly been very well cared for throughout its life.

The bodywork and paintwork are in fantastic condition, while details such as the original stamped windows, factory-style sunroof and genuine Ford front spotlights really add to the character of the car.

This isn't an XR2 that's been heavily modified, messed around with or turned into something it was never meant to be. It's simply a proper, honest and beautifully preserved example of one of Ford's most memorable hot hatches.

A TRUE 1980s ICON

For anyone who grew up around cars in the 1980s and '90s, the Fiesta XR2 needs very little introduction.

These were the cars you saw tearing around town, parked outside the local pub, sitting on driveways and filling the pages of the motoring magazines. If you didn't own one, chances are you knew somebody who did — or desperately wanted one yourself.

With its unmistakable styling, chunky bumpers, pepperpot-style wheels and sporty character, the Mk2 XR2 became one of the defining affordable performance cars of its era.

It represented a time when hot hatches were light, simple, raw and enormous fun. No complicated electronics or endless driving modes — just a little Ford hatchback with bags of character.

And as the years have passed, finding good, original examples has become increasingly difficult.
