A very special one-off 1976 Kawasaki KH675 four-cylinder two-stroke custom, built to a high standard by Bill Bristow, a talented and respected triples restorer. This was the third complete bike built by Bill and his sixth multi-cylinder two-stroke engine build across Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha projects.
The bike is based on a 1976 UK Kawasaki KH500 chassis and has been built to look as close to “standard” as possible, as if Kawasaki could have produced it themselves. It’s finished in candy super red metalflake paint, giving it a very period 1970s look.
The four-cylinder engine is derived from two 500 engines with a custom 90-degree crank. It has been built with new rods, seals and bearings, early barrels, fresh first-over bores and new pistons. It also has custom-built electronic ignition with no points, a four-outlet oil pump and custom-made oil lines.
It runs 500 carbs with new internals, mated to a modified airbox and foam filter through a custom secondary airbox with four outlets and Samco inlet hoses. The clutch has been modified to accept extra plates, and the throttle and choke cables have been modified to mimic the standard setup.
The chassis has also been upgraded with Z650 forks, Z650 drilled twin discs and rebuilt GPZ900 calipers. It has slightly wider than standard flanged alloy rims with stainless spokes, new Avon tyres, refurbished and zeroed clocks, new wiring and ignition looms, refurbished switches, and a halogen headlight.
The bike is fitted with custom-made Higgspeed expansion chambers and modified brake and gear pedals. It has covered just 105 miles since the build, so it is still being run in. It starts easily, sounds excellent, and has been shown twice, winning Best in Show both times.
