Description
Introducing our latest competition – the BARN FIND JEEP! Bundled with £2,000 in spares from Joe’s Motor Pool, paint, and an air compressor and spray gun, we’re giving someone the opportunity to take a Jeep from Barn Find to showground – exactly as they want it. She is a runner, and with a solid and matching tub, engine, chassis and even bonnet, this is a really special Jeep that doesn’t need much to bring her back into her prime. And if you already have a Jeep? Then you get a ton of spares!!
Yes, we’ve been hinting at a new Jeep competition that’s a “little different” over on the Historia Pub livestream, and it is here!! Meet what we have affectionately named the “Barn Find” – a May 1945 Ford GPW Jeep found on a farm in California! All of us dream of coming across an old classic and bringing it back to its former glory. That is what this competition is about, to make that dream a reality. You make your very own Jeep how YOU want, in the colour YOU want, with the stencils and unit markings YOU want. This isn’t some mid-restoration Jeep, or one that has been dirtied up to look old – it has come from a farm in the good old US of A!
So, what is special about this Jeep? She’s a 45 Ford, built during the war, and was then likely used postwar for farm duty. It is a VERY rare example thanks to having a matching engine, chassis, tub and even bonnet! This is extremely rare to see on a Jeep, and means this Jeep has pretty much all the original parts it left the factory with! Not only that, but all that green you see on her bodywork? That is her ORIGINAL olive drab paint she received during the war! With help from Joe’s Motor Pool, we even managed to uncover the original bonnet markings! What we love about American Jeeps is all the small and often hidden evidence of her past lives – who knows what secrets she holds?
Joe’s Motor Pool has gone through this Jeep and established that, other than cosmetics, she is a very solid Jeep and an ideal basis for an easy restoration. The engine runs perfectly, as it has not been tinkered with or fitted out with lesser-quality parts; you can almost balance a penny on top while it’s ticking over! The chassis is solid, and so is the tub. The tub has a few patches of filler, but nothing unusual for a Jeep.
What does she need? She needs new brakes and wiring for the electrics. It is also running a T90 gearbox, which is from a later model of Jeep. Many owners opt to upgrade to one of these as they are an improved transmission, but it is not a wartime gearbox. And of course, she needs new paint. Me personally? I’d be tempted to seal the body and keep her as she is! How often do you see a Jeep with original paint at a show?!
To make bringing this Jeep back to life even easier, we’ve teamed up with Joe’s Motor Pool and bundled in £2,000 worth of spares! This includes:
Brand new fuel tank
New fuel system
New carburettor
New plugs, leads, points, condenser
Four new bar tread tyres
Air compressor
Spray gun
Air gun
Tyre Inflator
Star stencils
Paint (you choose the colour)
Full set of canvas (roof, seats, hip pads) from All American Mfg & Canvas Works
New exhaust
Tow rope
This truly is a fantastic prize – it is the dream we’ve all had since we were kids of fixing up a project vehicle and making it exactly how you want. The connection you form with a vehicle after restoring it is a powerful one, and you will have the honour of increasing the number of restored WW2 vehicles on the roads today.
Thanks to Joe’s Motor Pool for collaborating on this prize. For ALL your Jeeping needs and spares at amazing prices, head over to Joe’s Motor Pool’s website!
