Description
Our 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is finished in grey and is a rare factory right-hand-drive example.
The Karmann Ghia was built using the Volkswagen Beetle running gear but with a very different body. The shape was designed by Ghia in Italy and built by Karmann in Germany, giving the car a unique and instantly recognisable look.
The car spent part of its life in Jersey before coming to the mainland. It comes with a history file documenting work carried out over the years, including a respray around 2000 and bodywork repairs between 2010 and 2013.
Mechanically, the Karmann Ghia uses Volkswagen’s air-cooled flat-four engine mounted at the rear, driving the rear wheels through a manual gearbox. By 1971, Type 14 Karmann Ghias, like this one, were fitted with front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, and independent front suspension.
Factory right-hand-drive Karmann Ghias are less common than left-hand-drive examples, which makes this one particularly interesting.
